The Election;  A Christian Perspective:

“And the LORD said unto Samuel, Hearken unto the voice of the people in all that they say unto thee: for they have not rejected thee, but they have rejected me, that I should not reign over them.”  1 Samuel 8:7

Our sufficiency is God.  Our liberator is Christ.   When anyone tells us the government is going to meet our needs - we are being led to idolatry.   How dare we listen?

Paul said   ‘I marvel that ye are so soon removed from him that called you into the grace of Christ unto another gospel’  Galatians 1:6

Where our faith goes - so goes our liberty.  Do we have faith in a man to make change?

The only change the Word of God compels us to pursue, in change in ourselves.  Only in Christ are we 'free indeed'.  Jeremiah told us that those who trust in the Lord shall be as a tree planted by the rivers of living water.  But he who trusts in men is cursed.  What are we saying to God - if we now look to a man to replace Christ?  What will we say to the Lord when he comes and asks us, 'Why did we seek another Messiah'?  Is it not written, seek 'His kingdom and His righteousness and all the things we need would be added unto us?   Or is it a question of what we think we need?  And our refusal to believe what God has said? - That HE will need our needs.

Consider the words of Senator Barack Obama in Berlin Germany, 2008:  "People of Berlin, and people of the world.  We are heirs to a struggle for freedom; let us answer our destiny and remake the world once again'.

The last time words like that were spoken in Germany, it was 1938 and Adolph Hitler spoke of 'freedom' and 'remaking the world'.  It did not bring liberty to the German people. It did lead to the bloodbath of World War II.  The only way to liberty is in Jesus Christ.       IF anyone is not free, they have not Christ.  If any man has Christ, he is free INDEED.

'Stone walls do not a prison make, nor iron bars a cage'.  Ask yourself what freedom is.  Is it to be chained to the lusts of this world and the accumulation of worldly goods? Is it the freedom to never need to exercise faith in God to achieve a goal or meet a need? That is not faith at all.  For faith rests itself in hope and is the confidence in that which is unseen.  In Christ alone are our needs met.  Or is the Word of God is found to be false and our hope in Christ vain?  God forbid.

Any man that promises freedom to us through government, is echoing the lies that began in the garden and have been repeated through the ages - 'You shall be as gods'.  Let's not let what happened in Germany happen here.  God forbid.

Government - as imagined by the nation’s founders - was one that would guard essential liberties and withdraw itself sufficiently to let men worship God and prosper accordingly.  God forbid that we choose government to feed us, guard us, and remove essential liberties in the name of becoming our protectorate.

"To those new States whom we welcome to the ranks of the free, we pledge our word that one form of colonial control shall not have passed away merely to be replaced by a far more iron tyranny."   John F. Kennedy

"Every step we take towards making the State our Caretaker of our lives, by that much we move toward making the State our Master."  Dwight Eisenhower

No man can supply our needs or remove our cross.  We have but one God and ought to not  be ashamed of the cross of Christ.  If we share the cross we will also share the glory.  God forbid that we even listen to the person that would have us put our trust in government to provide for us and replace our faith in God.   Let government be small, and God be our all in all.

A Biblical Prism of Current Affairs - Written to those who believe scripture;

Today in his column 'Destroying Liberty' Walter Williams quotes Supreme Court Justice Louis Brandeis who warned 'The greatest dangers to liberty lurk in the insidious encroachment of men of zeal, well-meaning but without understanding.'

Williams summarizes the issue saying;  'Americans demand that Congress spend trillions of dollars on Farm Subsidies, business bailouts, education subsidies, social security, Medicare, prescription drugs and other elements of a welfare state.  The problem is that Congress produces nothing.  Whatever Congress wishes to give,  it has to first take other people's money. Thus at the root of the welfare state is the immorality of intimidation, threats and coercion backed up with the treat of violence by the agents of the US Congress'.  Thus for Congress to do what some Americans deem as good, it must first do evil' It must do that which if done privately would mean a jail sentence, namely, take the property of one American and give it to another'.

In Political Circles the welfare state is called Communism.

For God's people the welfare state has another name - idolatry.

Idolatry you ask?  What else to call it when people purport to choose a leader               based on his ability to replace God for them?

In the gospels - after Christ fed 5,000 people - he fled from them.  Why? Because they wanted to make him King.  Christ would have nothing to do with permitting people taking their eyes off of God and expecting a man to provide for them.  It would have been sin for him.

In our culture today we have come to accept and expect that government is GOD.

  • We expect government to provide houses, whether we can afford them or not.
  • We expect government to provide a college education; whether we work for it or not.
  • We expect government to homogenize our incomes regardless of the effort put forth.
  • We expect government to provide guaranteed health care, with no regard to how abysmally government health care systems work elsewhere in the world, because we think of it as 'free'.
  • We expect government to provide for us in our old age with guarantees of sustenance, medicines and food - because we have either aborted our children that would have filled this role or we have raised our children to believe its the governments job to take care of us from cradle to grave; and so our children turn us over to the government in our old age, just as we left them with government sponsored child care in their youth.
  • In effect we want government to provide everything we need so that we don’t have to use our faith for anything.

This is idolatry.  It is not faith any longer in God. It is faith in government

 Where it was:

           Jehovah Jireh; provides for us:  Government is to provide for us;

·        Jehovah Rohi; protects us:  Government is to protect us;

·        Jehovah Rophi; heals us:   Government is to become physician;

·         Jehovah Shalom;comforts us:  Government is to succor us;

·        Jehovah Tsidkenu Leads us: Government is to guide us.

·         Jehovah Nissi Lifts us up:  Government is to promote us;

·        Jehovah Shammah   Is there for us:  Government is our 24/7 caretaker.

It all comes with a steep price. When freedom is to be sold for pottage the piper will have to be paid.  The cost is inevitably bondage;

The scope of which tragedy can only be appreciated in the prism of history.

If one could possibly record from the millennia the numbers of the martyrs, or if one could assay to weigh the drops of blood shed on the plains of Macedonia, Ephesus, Europe, the oceans and in the new world,  innumerable sacrifices whose price bought an unprecedented new nation with never before realized freedoms... so that it could later be all laid down on the alter of the man who promises the most;                                            What tragedy of unspeakable proportions.

If we have not finally yet seen the impossible hopelessness of trusting in government as a replacement for God, heaven help us.  Stalin's legacy, today's corrupt and dysfunctional remains of what once was Russia, exists as if soley to testify to the same error.

‘Thus saith the Lord God; Repent, and turn yourselves from your idols; and turn away your faces from all of your abominations; For my people which separates himself from me, and sets up his idols in his heart, and puts the stumbling block of iniquity before his face, and comes to a prophet to inquire of him concerning me;  I THE LORD WILL ANSWER HIM BY MYSELF!’  [Ezekel 14:6,7]

As a Christian, the thought of America looking for another 'Messiah' is frightening and appalling.  But even more frightening is the thought of the President of the United States being ashamed of his nation!  There is NO nation on earth that has afforded men the same freedom to overcome obstacles and to raise themselves up - as it is available here. And NO man that knows the Bible can suggest that persecution is the exclusive domain of any ONE culture.  EVERY Christian is persecuted who lives Godly in Christ. EVERY Christian is persecuted who lives Godly in Christ. No matter the culture, the nationality, the color; EVERY Christian is persecuted who lives Godly in Christ.

It was   Hearing Senator Obama go over to Europe and call himself a citizen of the world, all the while refusing to either salute or wear an American flag offends me to the core.  I served 16 years in the Armed Forces of the United States and I'm proud of our service also to the world.  The United States armed forces have been part of liberating nations all over the world, including France, Germany, Russia and Korea to name a few.  And we occupy none of them.

Today the Bush adminstration is blamed for 'starting a war'.  Have they forgotten the events of 9/11/2001?

People get all worked up over war deaths, the dead are listed and counted. Can they list and count the dead from the attacks that took place against the United States by terrorists starting ten years before Bush was elected and leading right up to 9/11?  Can they also count the thousands of peoples slaughtered by the Iraqi president Saddam Hussein?  Why do THESE deaths not matter?  Because they are faceless?  Or because the numbers are too large?  Well spoke Stalin himself who declared 'One death a tragedy, 1000 deaths a statistic.'  Bush didn't start the war.  Does no one remember the Olympics of 1972, where 11 athletes from Israeli were slain?  Does no one remember 1993 when terrorists FIRST tried to blow up the World Trade Towers in my home city of New York, and failing that promised 'to return'. Bush was not president at that time.  But when he sat in office his first year and the terrorists hit 4 American targets, President Bush did not make idle threats; he hit back.  And he succeeded in having the rest of his term be free from attacks on American soil.  What will happen next if we have a president that thinks he can 'sit down and use diplomacy to appease those that hate us?'   Hate needs no excuse.  A Bible reader knows that Cainhated Abel for NO good reason.  it is written that he hated him because 'his deeds were righteous but Cain's were evil.  There's hate for you.  NO reason needed.  Diplomacy failed with Hitler [remember Chamberlain resigning in disgrace?] and it will fail with terrorists of today.

I get sick listening to American apologists.  I am terrified by the notion that our next president will somehow try to obliterate American sovereignty in an poll appeasing bid for worldwide popularity.  We will never be loved all over the world and neither should this become an American objective that steers policy.  And God forbid we begin to permit the UN or any other international body dictate law to our sovereign land..

This blog is called '30 years of lessons from Heaven'... That is, until it becomes 40, and then 50 and then more.  Then I'll change the name.

There will also be links on this page to bring you to what I believe are the more essential web sites that are 'out there' providing life's critical insights.  Thanks for reviewing them, commenting on them, and- by all means- passing them along to friends.

First of all, ignorance is inexcusable.

Remember 'Question Authority'? It was a good idea 30 years ago and still is.

DISCLAIMER: By the way, in light of our litigious society that sees the courtroom as a lottery system and refuses to research and then take responsibility for their own decisions, I am compelled to write this disclaimer:  Though I practice everything I preach, I am not purporting to replace your medical advisors, nor am I a medical practitioner.  So while I am practicing my 1st-amendment right to carry on the following conversation, you are responsible for all of the research that you perform - even at my provocation - and the decisions that you make accordingly.

DON'T BELIEVE THE EXPERTS;  [necessarily]  I want to provoke you to begin by questioning things you may have taken for granted all your life. I've learned by terrible experience that no matter how boring accounting [for example] is, or auto repair, or plumbing, if you fail to ever harvest a working knowledge of  the most odious of these satellite tasks that are relegated to others - you're asking to be taken. Women know what I mean about auto repair, though I suffered for years through damage repair in the wake of an embezzling bookkeeper.  Even after I caught Hemlataben Patel stealing and forging Buon Fresco's checks, and even after her attorney returned a portion of the stolen money [as a plea to accept one felony instead of three] , Ms. Patel learned that her felony conviction would lead to her deportation so thanks to Virginia law she was able to withdraw her guilty plea and go to court to plead innocent! I appeared as a witness for the state of VA, and this gal who'd had 2 court cases already and was about to have 2 more, and had over 2 million socked away thanks to the proceeds of embezzlement from a Virginia hospital and a California bank, hired an expensive lawyer and in the local Fairfax Courthouse got herself acquittedBut not before her attorney put me through months of grief - subpoenaing hundreds of documents, demolishing business productivity and then raking me over the coals in court in front of a jury of my own
