'Cubans have seen this movie before and know how it ends'.

People are still voting.  The understanding of the imminent dangers in the lack of experience, a historically sound world view and business acumen as demonstrated by the president elect's policies and announced programs have resulted in a precipitous drop in stock, bond and business value as well as an astronomical rise in weapons sales by nervous Americans.  Even today the president elect is talking about government work programs, [FDR's New Deal redux] that didn't work for FDR [his plans to put 'Americans to work' extended the Great Depression by about 10 years] and will not work today.       The simple fact of the matter is that government is not a job creator, businesses are job creators.   The Government rather than being a money making enterprise is a money taking enterprise. A government cannot possibly employ the population of the United States.  The taxes required to hire the 2.5 million that President elect Obama is saying will be employed will reduce the job market by at least 3 times that much nationwide.           The only way to lower unemployment nationwide is to promote the growth of businesses.  Economics 101.

Undoubtedly some of you are wondering why I am 'apparently' putting my own business at risk by discussing current political events.  Isn't that professional suicide?  Some ask.  The answer is that if we do and say nothing at this time and permit a socialist government slide into position,  many of us will lose our businesses anyway. If taxes are raised any further and if other businesses begin to fail because of the impossible-to-realize tax burdens which are the inevitable result of an Obama Presidency, then there will possibly be no more school or studio.  We pay our taxes.  The only people that stand to gain from the tax and spend and government health care plan as detailed by Senator Obama, are those people who already do not pay income tax.

What has been proposed is tantamount to the largest welfare state this world has ever known.  Socialism of this has never done anything but destroy a nation.  On the mild end, it ruins actual health care - micro managing what people may receive as the burden to provide a service for people who cannot or will not pay becomes overwhelming to the system and services and health care workers lessen while the needy increase to every man woman and child, legal or illegal, who enter the country.   If you think it is unkind to say so,  please consider that government run, as opposed to private run, anything, is historically an abominable decrease in quality, not improvement.

Hey, if you really want to know if Obama's policies would work, take a look at Massachusetts today, in a worse depression than most any other state in the Union due to 2 years of failed socialist policies by governor Duval Patrick.  The state is an economic disaster zone, where even fining people for not carrying health insurance and fining businesses for not offering all of their employees health care, did not make it work, a lot of people just lost some more money, and guess what, most of what Gov. P implemented are echoed in the Obama mantras.

No wonder there though since Gov. P is an Obama advisor for proposed health plan.

 The proposed tax plan will undoubtedly also create an underground economy [yes, Canada, England and Spain come to mind] as businesses cannot stay afloat without hiding a portion of their incomes, making a portion of their citizenry either welfare recipients or by necessity, tax evading criminals.

Ironies:

  • What we have here is a politician whose home state holds a dismal record in Illinois with education, purporting to tell us he will improve education;

  • who has no military service or experience, purporting to rise to the position of commander in chief,

  • who has a million dollar home and a Harvard education that he did not pay for, purporting to understand the labors of the middle class;

  • who has never owned a business but is purporting to know how we should all run ours.

  • whose ignorance of economics is blatantly apparent in the expressed desire to increase taxes, anyone's taxes, in a time of recession.

His ignorance of how businesses are run profitably is demonstrated in a number of ways such as:

  • intent to apply windfall profit taxes on oil, which is tantamount to punishing a business for being profitable, forgetting that it is Joe the Plumber, Sam the salesman, and Frank the Fireman, who all own stock in the oil companies and who have risked their income so as to realize a return on their investment by way of dividends;  it is in some cases the retirement accounts of middle income America that he will tap into to 'spread the wealth' in this manner;

  • In debates and rallies I have listened to Obama accuse Insurance Companies of 'cherry picking' that is, refusing to insure people with pre-existing conditions and he will 'put a stop to that'.  Well, he may as well put a stop to the insurance industry at large, since if they are not permitted to gauge the  reasonable health and condition of their insured, that would be like insuring a man whose house is already on fire.

  •  And for that matter, why would anyone pay for insurance yearly when under these new rules, he may wait until he needs major surgery and then go get a policy.  Do you see any business rationale here?

  • To pay for this type of government overreach on how to run their business - insurance companies would have to either raise rates astronomically for people foolish enough to be keeping insurance 'while they don't actually need it' or fold up altogether.

  • This is no different than the reasons behind the GLOBAL financial crisis that we are In RIGHT NOW!  Government stepped in and demanded, under penalty of fine that Mortgage companies stop 'cherry picking' home buyers who they calculated would be able to actually pay back their loans.  NOT the President, but he Democratic CONGRESS, in the person of Barney Frank and Nancy Pelosi and Christopher Dodd among others, did this!   As a result, Risky [Sub Prime] loans, which had historically amounted to only 2% of loans ever written, mushroomed by 2006 to 30% of all Mortgages!

  • .   The rest you know.  The loan holders began defaulting at an unprecedented rate and brought the banks down all around the world.

  • Along with government overreach, out will go our right to free speech, [Obama is already talking of instituting a program to silence talk radio] our right to bear arms [Obama is a 100% voter against citizen rights to bear arms. [ It is a historically socialist notion that people are not to be trusted with firearms.  Though please ask yourselves, should we trust only the government with firearms?]  Are you aware of the 100,000,000 deaths throughout the 20th century that were people killed by their own governments?]

  • Out will go intellectual property rights which have historically made America the most successful and enterprising system of prosperity for all on the face of the earth at any time in history!  You ask, how can I say this?  I am an intellectual property holder, owning 2 issued patents with another 4 pending.   I already participated in the fight this year - 2008- against Patent Reform, which was a fancy word for 'Steal American Technologies Bill' as it became known around the nation by small business and large business who enjoy the American system of IP protection.  In Early 2008 the bill passed the House [which was being pushed forward by mega-company Microsoft and HP Technologies - who prefer to steal rather than pay for their use of IP owned by individuals and small businesses] and before we knew it Russia and China were waiting in the wings salivating.  They were waiting to jump on American technology and intellectual property once the bill would pass the Senate and [should it not be vetoed] become law!  One of the atrocious aspects of the bill is that the patents would have been exposed on line for all the world to see, PRIOR to issue.  Thank God, when small businesses rallied all over the nation to fight the suicidal legislation, the bill failed to pass in the Senate.   We won that one   Will we win this one?

  • Finally it has come to this; we are not to ask what we can do for our country or for our world, or for the church, or for our neighbor but 'what's in it for me?' is the prevailing theme.  Now, before you get me wrong, I KNOW people need health care and food and an education.  But it has never been and never will be, the role of government to guarantee anything, not even food.  Our nation's founding documents assert the proper activity of government as 'protecting the pursuit' of life, liberty and happiness, not guaranteeing the success thereof.   Another writer has put it, 'Equal opportunity, not equal outcome'.  It's simply not possible for a government to equal the results of everyone's efforts.  Communism has tried this over and over again and failed miserably in its attempts.  People in countries where the 'equal results' form of government live suffer the sharing not of wealth, but extreme poverty.  Only in countries where free markets and the individual pursuit of wealth is permitted and encouraged is wealth then shared and 'spread'.  Wealth is a result of individual effort and the grassroots generation of employment.  Businesses create jobs, not government.  This nation today has over 10 million unemployed persons!   President elect Obama is suggesting government programs to employ 1/4 of that amount.  What about the 7.5 million that will remain unemployed?   Only a policy of supporting the growth of business is going to overcome that figure.  Otherwise it will continue to grow.

A business man who owns a place of business right next to the Academy in Falls Church Virginia is from Cuba.  He told me:  "I am old enough to remember when Fidel Castro campaigned with the same platform of 'spreading the wealth' etc, as Obama.  We all remember after he got elected when he publicly removed the cross from his neck and put us into bondage and poverty".  As Cuba remains to this day.  This man and his Cuban friends, he added, vote Republican because ''In Cuba - We've all seen this movie and we know how it ends.'
